1. Before you leave for the interview make sure that you have your interview schedule and travel instructions.
2. Be prepared for a long day. Get to bed early and eat a light breakfast. Do not drink a lot of coffee or tea during the interviews.
3. Show up for the interview 15 minutes early. You may have to sign in at a security desk and it can make you late.
4. Wear a blue, gray, or black business suit, tie, and black shoes (shined). Do not wear brown shoes.
5. Bring a briefcase or portfolio, a pen and a pad of paper. Do some research about the company. Take notes during the interview. Ask the same questions as listed above (see questions on PREPARING FOR A PHONE INTERVIEW # 7) , but also include;
a. What is the career track?
b. Ask people what their job is and how would you work with them.
c. Ask them what they like best about the company.
d. Ask them what they see for the future of the company.
6. If you are concerned about your English speak slowly and distinctly. Don’t rush your answers.
7. When you are introduced to a person on the interview schedule, tell them that you appreciate their taking the time to meet with you. At the end of the interview shake their hand and tell them “Thank you for your time and I hope to see you again.”
8. If you do not know the answer to a question, tell the person that you do not know the answer. They will appreciate your honesty.
9. Ask for business cards, and email everyone a thank you note. Do not contact anyone via email. If you have questions after the interview, call your account manager and they will get the information for you. Email questions can be misunderstood, and you may be excluded from consideration because of it.
10. If they ask for salary information tell them your current salary and expected bonus, if any. Do not tell them what salary you are looking for. You may give a number too high and you will be disqualified, or a number too low and you won’t be paid the right salary. Tell them that you expect a fair offer based on your experience, relocation and geographical location. If they keep asking, tell them that you prefer that they talk to your account manager.
11. At the end of the day you should be taken back to the person who will be hiring you. If you are interested in the position tell them that you are interested, and ask if there is any other information they need in order to make a decision.
